My golden sparrow, sprawled out upon the bottom of the tub.

Distressingly beautiful
As usual,
Just like she always was.

Just like she was
Swimming underneath
Those hospital gowns;
As she was when
She felt no energy to move
But found a voice to sing;
As she was when
She looked up towards
The sun and felt no warmer,
But unusually happier
Than usual to be
With me.

Though not so unusual,
I firstly suspected nothing.
In fact resting
My heart upon
The frame with my
Ear upon the door,
Casually reminding her
Of her own beauty;
And though I could not
See her face
Through the wood,
I knew it was
as I had left it.
